Discover the Heart of Belgrade: A Guided Tour Through History and Culture
This tour takes you through the vibrant streets of downtown Belgrade, starting at the city’s main meeting point—Republic Square. From the monument of Prince Michael, we’ll delve into the stories behind the National Museum and the National Theater before heading to the “smartest part” of the city—Students’ Square.
Next, we’ll stroll along the iconic pedestrian street, home to stunning edifices from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showcasing architectural influences from Budapest, Vienna, and Prague. This historic path follows the same route laid over 2,000 years ago during the Roman era.
Our journey continues to the breathtaking Kalemegdan Park and the monumental walls of Belgrade Fortress, constructed by various civilizations throughout the city’s tumultuous and impressive history. At the fortress’s highest point, we’ll take in a panoramic view of the Sava and Danube Rivers, where Central Europe meets the Balkans—one of Europe’s most strategically significant locations.
Standing beside the iconic Victor Monument, your Urban Nomad guide will reveal why Belgrade endured around 115 battles and wars over the past 23 centuries, and why it’s now recognized as the city of the future in Southeast Europe.
From there, we’ll walk along the scenic Sava Promenade toward King Peter Street, where the tour concludes in an area rich in Serbian culture, tradition, and heritage. You’ll see the Cathedral Church, the city’s oldest tavern, the old Royal Palace, and King Peter School—the site of the first-ever basketball game played in Serbia.
